About the Role
The Chief Engineer is the highest authority responsible for all technical and engineering operations onboard. This role ensures the efficient operation and maintenance of all critical systems, supporting both maritime and medical functions while maintaining the highest safety and compliance standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee all engine room operations and onboard engineering systems.
- Ensure continuous and safe operation of power and life-support systems, especially medical-critical systems.
- Manage and implement planned maintenance systems (PMS).
- Lead the engineering team and supervise technical performance.
- Ensure compliance with international maritime regulations (SOLAS, MARPOL) and classification standards (Class).
- Supervise HVAC and environmental control systems onboard.
- Monitor fuel consumption and optimize operational efficiency.
- Lead technical emergency response and firefighting readiness.
- Prepare technical reports and submit them to senior management.
- Coordinate with regulatory authorities and inspectors to ensure full compliance.
Core Qualifications & Requirements
- Certificate of Competency (COC) – Chief Engineer (Unlimited).
- 5–8+ years of maritime experience, including leadership roles.
- Strong experience in ship systems operation and maintenance.
- Advanced knowledge of power systems, HVAC, and life-support systems.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent decision-making under pressure.
- Full proficiency in technical English.
Preferred Qualifications (Nice to Have)
- Previous experience on hospital ships or specialized vessels.
- Familiarity with advanced automation and control systems.
- Experience in technical project management or operational optimization.
