Job Purpose

To lead and manage the Engine Department on board the vessel, ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of all mechanical, electrical, and auxiliary systems. The Chief Engineer is the senior-most technical authority responsible for maintaining vessel performance and safety standards.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Manage and supervise all engine room operations and engineering activities.

• Ensure proper operation, maintenance, and repair of main engines, auxiliary engines, generators, and related systems.

• Plan and implement preventive and corrective maintenance schedules.

• Monitor machinery performance and troubleshoot technical issues effectively.

• Control fuel consumption, lubricants, and spare parts inventory.

• Ensure compliance with international maritime regulations (e.g., IMO, SOLAS, MARPOL) and company policies.

• Lead, train, and evaluate engineering crew and technical staff.

• Maintain accurate technical records, logs, and reports.

• Coordinate with the Master and shore management on operational and technical matters.

• Ensure adherence to safety procedures and emergency preparedness within the engine department.

Note : The employee rotates between different types of vessels, with basic training provided on the varying equipment.

Qualifications

• Certificate of Marine engineering 

• Extensive experience in marine engineering and ship machinery operations for three years and more 

• Strong knowledge of propulsion systems, power generation, and auxiliary systems.

• Familiarity with international maritime regulations and safety standards.

• Proven leadership and team management skills.
